Sunday, August 2, 2009, 2:15 pm [EST] Attention: webmaster Message: Hello. I've recently been looking into family history and have found an uncle through the 1911 Census. His occupation, at age 17, is listed as "cycle works". He is part of a household address at 9, Gladstone Road, Horsham although another address of 14, West Parade, Horsham is also mentioned with his name. I wonder if you have any information on a cycle factory or such place of employment that would have been active in 1911 in the Horsham area. I know that people used to travel many miles to work in years gone by and my uncle may have travelled outside of the Horsham area. I know it's an unusual request but I note from your home page that some of your members have interests in pedal cycles of old. Thanks, in anticipation, Bob Clark Lincolnshire

Friday, July 31, 2009, 3:24 pm [EST] Attention: general Message: I work for Haywards Heath Town Council and we are organising our Town Day on Saturday 5th September. Also on this date the Girl Guides are launching their centenary year. To celebrate this launch we would like to include in the parade vehicles representing the last 100 years and would like vehicles from each decade. The Girl Guides will then dress in appropriate costume for that period and walk along site the vehicle. We have so far managed to find a car from the 1930's, 1970's, 1980's and 2000's. We are still looking for a vehicle to represent 1900 to 1910 and from 1910 to 1920, 1940's and 1950's. We wondered whether you have any contacts where we might be able to source the missing decades. It does not have to be a car any vehicle from the period will be fine. After the parade the owners can park in Victoria Park and show off their mode of transport! Or if anyone is interested in taking part, we do not mind having more than one vehicle in each decade. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards From: Helen Hewett (helen.hewett@hhtc.eclipse.co.uk)

Attention: webmaster Message: Whilst at this years show on 12th July I came across a 1912 Napier car in the A1 section. The owner, I believe, was a Mr. Christopher Cooper. I would like to get in touch with him as I have a connection to the previous owner of this car in Canada, so I wonder if you have an address for him or telephone number. I hope you can help. From: Colin Yeats

Request for Information

The following was received via email. If you can help, please contact us via the 'Mail Me' link.
About 12 months ago I blindly brought a large table saw powered by a more modern diesel engine, in rather a sad state. Both will have to be totaly restored. My question to you or your members is help! regarding the saw. After some extensive research i have found that the table saw ( The Arun) was made by Charles Gibbens Prewett of Arun works, worthing Road, Horsham in the county of Sussex in 1922. This was found by the Patent number in the casting which is heavily rusted. (link to Patent )http://www.wikipatents.com/patent_full.php?id=GB196191
I have searched and searched the internet and horsham museum site and have found nothing. No pictures, references, even a mention that the works existed other than a mention in the london gazette 3rd May 1921 with regard to the employment of women.
I would be most happy to share information about the find to anyone who is interested, but if any one could supply me with any information about the saws made at the works I would be most greatfull as my saw is not quite as per drawing of the original Patent.

Also, one of our members hopes to put on a small car show on June 6th in East Preston during their Festival week, ideally with a car from each decade from the 1890s to the 1970s.
If you live locally, and have a vehicle that might fit into this show please email direct to morris.owner@datmanbu.co.uk for further information; preferably giving a brief description of your vehicle.

The ARDINGLY VINTAGE AND CLASSIC VEHICLE SHOW 2009 will be on July 11/12th: A reminder that you should have contacted us by 31 March if you don't get an entry form. Please ensure that you return them to marshals before 30th April as the event is so popular that there may not be room for your exhibit after that date.
